What made you interested in dermatology?
Dermatology offers a great deal of variety. I enjoy seeing children, adults, males and females. I am able to perform surgical procedures, cosmetic procedures and routine skin examinations. As part of my residency, I was trained to identify disease both clinically and histopathologically with the microscope. Every day is different! In addition, I enjoy seeing what I am treating and visibly watching it improve.
What is your number one recommendation for patients to protect their skin?
No matter your age or skin type, you should wear sunscreen! We take for granted the daily exposure to ultraviolet light that each one of us receives while doing routine tasks such as walking across a parking lot to the grocery store or checking the mail. Over a lifetime, this exposure adds up!
What is one fun fact about you?
I am a violinist. I began taking Suzuki violin lessons at the age of 4. From that time until I graduated from high school, I took private lessons. I do believe that the dedication it took to learn new pieces, form and technique contributed to my success in school and medicine. Hard work pays off!
What is your favorite cosmetic product?
Revision Vitamin C 30% lotion is my favorite cosmetic product. It is a great moisturizer for my sensitive skin, but more importantly, it keeps my freckles in check. Yes, I have freckles and have since early childhood. Though they give me “character,” they aren’t my favorite. Vitamin C keeps them as light as possible.
What is your favorite over-the-counter product for skin?
Neutrogena Foaming Facial Cleanser is great! I am able to use this with my Clarisonic brush. It is both gentle and effective.
