Have you ever looked at your face and thought, “I wish my pores weren’t so big?” Well, you’re not alone! Large pores can be caused by a number of reasons including: high oil excretion, decreased elasticity around pores, and increased hair follicle volume. Frankly, much of this happens as a result of aging and hormonal changes, but you don’t need to despair! There are some things you can do to help treat large pores!
Use non-comedogenic skin care products and makeup
“Non-comedogenic” means that a product won’t clog your pores. When pores clog, they expand, which can make your pores look more noticeable. To avoid this, make sure one of the following terms is on any product you apply to your face:
- Non-comedogenic
- Oil free
- Won’t clog pores
Cleanse Twice a Day
Clogged pores or an oily complexion can make pores look larger. Cleansing twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, can help ensure your pores are not clogged and reduce oiliness.
When cleansing your face, you’ll want to:
- Use warm water rather than hot which can irritate skin and cause redness and increase the appearance of pores
- Gently wash your face, avoiding scrubbing which can also irritate skin
- Use only a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser
Use a Retinol
Using a skin care product with retinol or retinyl palmitate may help alleviate redness, acne, and oil which can contribute to pore size. For best results, follow the product instructions, most of the time which instruct to apply the product before going to bed. We can help recommend products from those we sell in the office that can best meet your skin’s needs.
Treat sagging skin
As we age, our skin loses its firmness and starts to sag which can contribute to the appearance of large pores. We offer a variety of chemical peels and laser treatments which can help combat sagging skin and reduce the overall appearance of your pore size.
